The College Football National Championship Betting Picks

The great thing about college football is that we get to see many familiar faces as well as some new ones. Here is a list of the favorites to win the championship.

can The Georgia Bulldogs Complete A 3-Peat?

Well, they did it again and they made it look easy. Georgia kicked off the 2022 season putting up nearly 170 points over the opening four weeks and never slowed down. The offensive line, nominated for the Joe Moore Award but snubbed in favor of the Michigan Wolverinesunit, was the star of the show, yielding just 0.6 sacks per game for the third-best rating in the country.

A handful of college football’s top contenders will watch their starting quarterbacks move on to the NFL, and Georgia’s Stetson Bennett is one of them. In the championship matchup, the senior threw for 304 yards and four touchdown passes and ran for two more scores. Though he’s moving on, Kirby Smart has options in 6-foot-4 Carson Beck or redshirt sophomore Brock Vandagriff. Though it is Beck that is expected to start in Week 1. But, the permanent position of QB1 is still up for grabs.

Carson Beck had one of the most impressive spring games of 2023. He’s a pretty advanced passer imo that has a solid feel for the pocket despite minimal experience. UGA went good on good and he carved up the 1s going 18/22.

If Georgia can accomplish a three-peat, it would be the first team to do so since the Minnesota Golden Gophers won three titles in a row from 1934 to 1936. Our odds calculator suggests that at +250 odds, the Dawgs have a 28.57% likelihood of winning the championship for a third consecutive season. A $100 wager would cash out $350, which is a $250 profit for your pocket.

2023 National Championship Favorites and Value Picks

Alabama Crimson Tide (+500)

Based on the standards the Tide have set for themselves, an 11-2 record represented a pretty disappointing season and their worst performance since 2013. Alabama hit a bump about halfway through the campaign by losing to a pair of SEC rivals, the Tennessee Volunteers and LSU Tigers, by a combined four points.

Another loss that’ll sting more is the departure of 2021 Heisman Trophy finalist Bryce Young, who was drafted first overall to the NFL's Carolina Panthers. The junior quarterback finished with over 3,300 passing yards, 32 touchdowns and a solid 86.2 QBR.

But there’s no doubt Nick Saban and his Alabama program can bring in new talent. The Tide’s 2023 recruiting class welcomes five offensive linemen, a wide receiver, two running backs, two quarterbacks and more. Saban will be chomping at the bit to bounce back. Seriously, when is Alabama not considered in the race?

uSC Trojans (+1200)

Finally, a program with no quarterback concerns. I mean, when the reigningHeisman Trophywinner is wearing your school colors for another season, you’re predictably going to be considered a national championship contender. Caleb Williams, currently favored to hoist the Heisman again, recorded dominant numbers in 2022. The sophomore led the nation with 42 touchdown passes and threw for 4,537 yards (ranked third) while compiling an 87.6 QBR (fifth).

Not to mention, USC picked up one of the top impact freshman for the upcoming season. Zachariah Branch, the no. 1 wide receiver in the 2023 recruiting class, will swiftly replace Jordan Addison.

The Trojans (11-3), who missed the CFP courtesy of a gut-wrenching loss to the Utah Utes. The defense allowed 29.2 points per game on the season, including 40 PPG in its last three outings, and will need to improve if the Trojans want to get a sniff of the CFP again. USC makes its season debut at home against San Jose State.

Value pick: Michigan Wolverines (+1000)

Unlike most of the programs above them, the Wolverines don’t have massive gaps to fill on their bench. Starting QB J.J. McCarthy will be back on the field, alongside the lethal running back tandem of Blake Corum and Donovan Edwards. Basically, just about all the players you wouldn’t want to lose.

As much as it stings to give the bluecredit, Michigan wrapped up the 2022 regular season 13-0 for its best record since 1998 before being upset 51-45 by TCU in the Fiesta Bowl semifinal. Despite the loss, McCarthy put on a noble performance with 343 yards and two touchdowns.

Apart from 1 mistake- JJ McCarthy played his best half of the season in the 2nd half against TCU. He had a career high 5 completions on throws of 20+ yards. Was able to use his legs more as well. JJ has 2 more years of eligibility

The outcome could’ve been different had Corum played.A knee injury kept the junior out of the game after he ran for 18 touchdowns and nearly 1,500 rushing yards on the season. Corum has decided to rejoin Michigan for the 2023 campaign, saying he's stronger than ever, and with the group that got the Wolverines to the semifinals coming back, it’s clear they have what it takes to be contenders again.

What Is A Futures Bet For College Football Teams?

When it comes to big events for any sport, you can bet months in advance. In this case, a futures bet is a wager made on which team will win the national championship. Each week, oddsmakers will update the odds to reflect how a squad is doing. If a team is plagued with injuries, their chances of making it to the final game slim down. A surging squad will see their odds skyrocket.
